On Being Good – The Series

You want to be great at so many things, but you feel like a failure at most of what you attempt. The belief that you have to be the greatest dad, husband, lover, sister, daughter, and friend is causing you anxiety. There is no need for that. Being good is not a competitive sport, but a slow-moving process of growth and personal development.

In the upcoming posts, we’ll explore why we should try to be good, and what it means to be a good boss, a good citizen, an outstanding employee, or a good friend. However, all of these must stand on the foundation of being a good person.

There are almost as many definitions of a good person as there are people.

A Few Qualities of ‘Good’ People

  1. They provide reality checks without pessimism
  2. A good person does what is right, even in the face of resistance and adversity
  3. They are helpful but not overbearing
  4. Good people practice moderation
  5. Good people love other people and use things while ‘bad’ people love things and use other people
  6. They get things done

That’s it for this post. I’ll write one post per month that includes links and other resources for my readers to explore each concept further.

All the best and see you next month.

Benjamin Franklin had plenty to say about being good.  Here is an introduction to his 13 virtues.

  1. Admin,
I like your simple but very accurate description of what constitutes a good person.
Unfortunately, they are becoming harder and harder to find.
    Regards, Phil

  2. An admirable succinct account. Sadly in this graceless age good people are hard to encounter. Hopefully things change.
